Jeffrey Lysaught, CFP®

Managing Director

The desire to provide objective financial planning was the catalyst for Jeffrey's formation of The Hunter Group in 1986, prior to partnering with United Capital Financial Advisers, LLC (United Capital). Before that time, Jeffrey worked with GMAC, Citicorp, and Cigna Financial Services where he gained valuable experience and insights into the complexities of corporate and individual financial planning issues. His certification as a Certified Financial Planner™ indicates Jeffrey has completed, and continues to complete, rigorous education, experience, and examination requirements set forth by the CFP Board of Standards. His clients are located worldwide and include numerous executives with Fortune 500 companies and smaller public and privately held firms, small business owners, retirees and a Nobel Prize winner. United Capital's San Diego office has assembled a team of top-notch financial planning experts on their staff and work closely with an elite group of estate and tax attorneys, CPAs, and pension specialists.

Jeff is a President's Council member for Colonial Williamsburg and a member of the Raleigh Tavern Society. He also currently serves on the Santaluz Community Finance Committee.  A graduate of the University of Kansas, he is an avid Jayhawk basketball fan.

Ronald E. Floyd

Managing Director

Ron's extensive experience in the financial services industry and high work ethic bring to United Capital a wealth of insights regarding every facet of financial planning. He was recognized as a top wealth advisor with his previous firm, IDS/American Express which later became Ameriprise Financial Advisors. His career began with Lincoln National Life in 1977 and after creating his own agency he joined Value Equities Corp. Ron gained additional valuable industry knowledge while employed with FNIC. Ron works with clients to design a personal financial plan around their unique life goals. This strategy focuses on helping them become more confident about managing their financial objectives. It is designed to provide solutions to both every day and long-term financial goals, and is personalized to meet the needs of high-net-worth individuals and small business owners. With over 30 years in the financial planning business Ron understands that everyone's situation is uniquely different and that priorities change based on time horizons, and their long and short-term goals.

Ron graduated from the University of Redlands. His outside interests include snow skiing, golfing, woodworking, water sports and hiking.

Kevin King, CFA®

Portfolio Manager

Kevin joined United Capital, formerly The Hunter Group, in 2000 after five years as a Portfolio Analyst for Provident Capital Corp. conducting research on individual stocks and assisting in the management of over 100 individual stock portfolios. While at Provident, Kevin earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation from the Association for Investment Management and Research. Achieving the Chartered Financial Analyst designation demonstrates Kevin's keen financial analytical acumen as well as his commitment to being the best in his field. Kevin also assisted in investment operations and research for San Diego Trust and Savings Bank's proprietary mutual fund family. Presently, as Portfolio Manager, Kevin researches market trends, analyzes the performance of stocks, bonds, and mutual funds, forecasts market changes, and, in coordination with the entire staff, makes recommendations to the financial advisers to optimize the performance of client portfolios.

A graduate of San Diego State, Kevin enjoys living sea side in Pacific Beach. In his spare time he enjoys traveling, especially to Costa Rica, reading and bicycling.

Gregory Powers, CFP®, ChFC®, AIF®

Wealth Adviser

As a financial planner with over 11 years of experience in the financial services industry, Greg Powers forte is the efficient coordination of the many aspects of one’s financial life including: development, implementation and monitoring of a comprehensive financial plan, insurance planning and coverage optimization, asset and investment management strategies, tax-sensitive retirement income planning and estate planning strategies.

Over the course of his career, Greg has earned multiple financial planning and specialist designations which demonstrate his commitment to being an industry stand out: Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®), Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®), Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF®), Chartered Retirement Plan Specialist (CRPS®).

Greg has also earned the FINRA registrations Series 7, 66, and 24 and is a licensed California Life Agent. This past year, Greg was asked by the Certified Financial Planning® Board in Washington, DC to volunteer as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) helping them review the content of the comprehensive CFP® exam to ensure the subject matter is accurate, relevant and challenging. Honored, Greg happily accepted the offer and looks forward to continuing to work with the CFP® Board to improve the level of professionalism and education for those dedicated to the financial planning profession.

Greg graduated from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine with a degree in Economics in May of 1999. He has also studied at the University of Bristol in England. A resident of downtown San Diego, in his spare time Greg loves to cook, golf, ski, and play softball.

Janet E. Kohrmann, CFP®

Practice Manager

As Practice Manager, Janet is responsible for the day to day operations of the San Diego office. She provides operational oversight for the completion of all client services, new business, accounting, staff deployment and office management. Strong leadership skills, organizational capabilities and an ability to communicate efficiently and effectively are characteristics Janet brings to this pivotal role.

Janet attained her business degree and started in the finance industry by providing extensive accounting services for firms in various industries. She was recruited by TIAA CREF, one of the largest retirement plan providers in the country, and was enlisted to work in their high net worth division. During this time, Janet earned her CFP® designation and life/disability insurance license. Janet specialized in designing and implementing executive benefit programs for Fortune 500 companies, working with some of the top ERISA attorneys in the nation. She also spent a year writing and developing a required consumer education program for people entering bankruptcy under the new laws for a local company. For the past five years she was a valued member of a local boutique investment advisory firm providing comprehensive financial planning for its clients. Janet also handled complete accounting and office oversight services for the firm. Serving on the board of the Executive Women International (EWI)-San Diego and on various committees for the Financial Planning Association (FPA) has broadened Janet’s wealth of knowledge and industry insiders.

A native San Diegan, Janet is an accomplished equestrian and once worked as a pack guide leading trips into the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in Colorado. She has also worked at various racetracks in Southern California. Janet relishes the time she spends with her horses. In addition she is an avid reader, hiker, loves camping and travel to our National Parks.

Meredith McCall


Administrative Manager

Meredith McCall joined United Capital, formerly The Hunter Group, in 2002 and after a one year hiatus to give birth to and bond with her daughter, Isabella, she returned in 2010 as our Administrative Manager. Specifically, Meredith is in charge of maintaining the office calendar, all document storage and scanning into our LaserFiche data imaging system and administering account activities revolving around client requests. She is a direct liaison with any third-party providers. Meredith also provides notary services for clients and coordinates the proper recordation of those documents as needed.

In her spare time Meredith enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading, watching movies, cooking and walking by the marina.

Patti Conley

Administrative Assistant

Greeting you upon entering or on the phone is Patti Conley, the newest addition to our team. Patti brings a wealth of administrative and marketing experience to our United Capital office in San Diego. From her post college recruitment by Goldman Sachs in New York City, where she oversaw the daily brokerage functions of the managing partners to her most recent tenure as the customer relations manager for a Carlsbad based mortgage brokerage specializing in physician loans, Patti's optimism, can do spirit and energy are refreshing!

As Administrative Assistant Patti's domain is the front of the office; extensive client contact, client data management, scanning, updating files, processing forms and communication for timely completion. She is excited to be part of the team and help us go to the next level of outstanding service by utilizing her intuitiveness, strong work ethic and business/marketing background.

A business major from St Leo University in Florida, Patti originally hails from New Jersey. She has been happily entrenched in Carlsbad for many years where she actively volunteers at the YMCA, Deepak Chopra Center at La Costa Resort and for the Komen 3-Day Breast Cancer Walk. A mother of three, Patti's hobbies reflect her spirit: paddle boarding, outdoor cycling, walking and working out.

Kathy Lysaught

Consultant

Kathy Lysaught assists United Capital's San Diego office in several arenas. As a Notary, Kathy provides notary services for client documents and coordinates the recording with appropriate agencies. As a licensed Realtor, Kathy provides valuable insights, research, and resources in the real estate and mortgage industries. Additionally, she coordinates firm events and is the human resources liaison with United Capital Financial Advisers.

Kathy graduated from the University of Kansas with degrees in Personnel Administration and Psychology. Hobbies involving home and family occupy Kathy's spare time--gardening, cooking, golfing, travel and hiking. She recently was chosen to serve on the Santaluz Community membership committee as a goodwill ambassador and is a member of Colonial Williamsburg's Raleigh Tavern Society.
